PARISH APOSTOLATE

MWENYEHERI JOSEPH ALLAMANO KANISA KATHOLIKI KWEMBE

On the 18th of November 2018, the Catholic community of Kwembe near Mbezi town in the Dar es Salaam region experienced a day of great joy. After forty-eight years of patient waiting, the Kigango (substation) Mwenheheri Joseph Allamano was elevated to the status of a Parish. The Missionaries of the Blessed Sacrament were entrusted with the care of the faithful in Kwembe, where there are currently around 3000 members in approximately 600 families. The missionaries not only serve in the main Parish church but also in three other substations, despite the challenges posed by poor infrastructure and difficult roads.

Fr. Seby Kachappally MCBS was the first Parish Priest. At present Fr. Sabu Maniyanparayil and Fr. Titus Palathinkal serve the Church as Parish Vicar and the assistant respectively.

Despite these challenges, the missionaries make every effort to reach out to each member of the congregation, relying on the special providence of God. Located away from the hustle and bustle of city life, Kwembe has seen a gradual increase in its number of faithful. Most of the families in the Parish are middle class, working in various service sectors. Additionally, many parishioners have migrated from different parts of Tanzania in pursuit of their professions.

The priests play a vital role in guiding and nurturing the faithful, emphasizing the importance of the Holy Eucharist and teaching about the Eucharistic Love of Jesus. Despite their busy work schedules, the people actively participate in various pious associations and regular Thursday adoration.

Furthermore, the Parish is involved in several social interventions, including providing food kits for those in need and supplying study equipment for underprivileged children.
